[Financial News, Incheon = Han Gap-su] Early voting for the June 3 local elections began on the 29th, and Park Chan-dae of the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) and Yoo Jeong-bok of the People Power Party, both running for mayor of Incheon Metropolitan City, completed voting and launched a full-scale effort to win last-minute support. Both candidates focused on rallying their supporters, emphasizing either a vision for Incheon's future or the need to check the current administration.
■ Park Chan-dae: "Turn Songdo into a global future city... attract a UN Global AI Hub"
After voting that day, Park Chan-dae held a press conference in Songdo International City and unveiled his plan to build a "global AI hub" centered on Songdo.
Park said, "The era has begun in which AI, bio, data and finance determine the nation's future." He added, "Korea must choose whether it will be a country that follows the AI era or one that leads the new era." He then expressed his determination to bring a UN Global AI Hub to Songdo International City.
He pointed to Songdo's world-class urban infrastructure and explained, "It will become the ideal test bed where AI is actually implemented in industry and in people's daily lives."
Park also proposed pledges to establish the Incheon Bio Science and Technology Institute, attract international financial institutions, and push for the creation of Songdo District in order to develop Songdo into a world-class future city.
Park appealed for support, saying, "National competitiveness ultimately depends on what kind of cities we have." He added, "I will make sure Korea's future begins in Incheon."
■ Yoo Jeong-bok: "A true servant of the people... entering an all-night full-scale campaign from today"
Yoo Jeong-bok also cast his ballot the same day at the Juan 1-dong Early Voting Polling Place set up in the Tteum Cultural Creation District in Michuhol District, Incheon.
Speaking to reporters after voting, Yoo said firmly, "We must stop the runaway concentration of power, and candidate No. 2 Yoo Jeong-bok will become your immediate family." Asked why he chose the polling place in Juan 1-dong, where his campaign office is located, he said, "I started my campaign here, and I wanted to show my determination to win here." He added, "As a candidate, it is only natural to vote first."
During the remaining campaign period, Yoo plans to communicate directly with voters, focusing on livelihoods and his vision for the future.
He stressed, "I will keep working until the end so that citizens can clearly judge who will improve their lives and who is the true servant they can entrust with their future."
In addition, Yoo's campaign plans to enter an "all-night camp mode" from the day early voting began until June 2, the final day of official campaigning, and launch a last-minute all-out push to boost turnout and win over undecided voters.
