[Financial News] Hope, Na Hong-jin's film that emerged as the biggest topic at this year's Cannes Film Festival, has been sold at the highest price ever for a Korean film.
On the 29th, Plus M Entertainment said that Hope had achieved a landmark pre-sale to more than 200 countries and territories worldwide at the highest price in Korean film history.
\r\nHope is estimated to have a production budget of 50 billion to 70 billion won, and speculation is circulating that its break-even point for a domestic theatrical release is 8 million to 12 million viewers.
Plus M said, "Through overseas pre-sales alone, we have already recovered an amount equal to about half of the net production cost," adding, "Given the prospect of additional profits from future overseas box office performance, a stable revenue structure has been established."
\r\nMeanwhile, at a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival earlier, Na said, "As I thought about why people commit crimes, why violence happens, and what causes other social problems, I went as far as the supernatural and religious elements in The Wailing, but this time I went all the way to the universe. That is where this film began." He also stated, "This film is a metaphor for how problems, violence, incidents, and unpleasant things in the world happen and grow. I wanted to tell a story about whether they can really grow that far. They can grow that far."
