[Financial News] A recent analysis claiming that Samsung Electronics' turnover rate was 10 times higher than SK hynix's has been interpreted as a misunderstanding caused by a simple comparison of figures based on different standards. When compared using the same criteria, Samsung Electronics' turnover rate was actually lower than SK hynix's.
On the 29th, News1 reported, citing the sustainability reports of Samsung Electronics and SK hynix, that the average turnover rate over the past five years from 2020 to 2024 was 2.1% for Samsung Electronics and 2.3% for SK hynix. That puts Samsung Electronics 0.2 percentage points below SK hynix.
The gap became even clearer when the semiconductor business units were examined separately. Samsung Electronics' turnover rate for its DS Division was in the 1% range, widening the difference further from SK hynix.
Industry observers said the figures show that Samsung Electronics has one of the highest levels of employment stability and talent retention in South Korea.
Earlier, a domestic research institute released an analysis saying Samsung Electronics' turnover rate was about 10 times higher than SK hynix's. However, it was later confirmed that the comparison used figures calculated under different standards.
For Samsung Electronics, the figure reflected a global turnover rate that included employees both in South Korea and overseas. SK hynix, by contrast, used a figure calculated only from employees at its domestic sites.
In Samsung Electronics' case, large production lines in Vietnam, India and other countries appear to have pushed up the global turnover rate, as overseas production workers tend to change jobs or leave more frequently.
