Police raid 7 locations, including Seoul Metropolitan Government and contractors, over Seosomun Overpass collapse

[Financial News] Police have launched a compulsory investigation into the Seoul Metropolitan Government Infrastructure Headquarters and construction firms in connection with the Seosomun Overpass collapse in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Metropolitan Criminal Investigation Unit said on the 29th that, starting at around 9 a.m., it was conducting searches and seizures at a total of seven locations, including the Seoul Metropolitan Government Infrastructure Headquarters, the headquarters of the main contractor and subcontractor involved in the project, and site offices, to determine the cause of the accident.
A total of 53 people were deployed for the raid, including 33 officers from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Metropolitan Criminal Investigation Unit and 20 labor inspectors from the Seoul Regional Employment and Labor Office.
A police official said, "We will thoroughly analyze the materials secured through the search and seizure to clearly determine the cause of the accident and who is responsible, and we will conduct the investigation strictly."
Earlier, at around 2:33 p.m. on the 26th, part of the Seosomun Overpass in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, collapsed, killing a man in his 60s identified by his surname Lee, the site manager from Heungwha Construction; a man in his 60s identified by his surname Ahn, the chief supervisor; and a man in his 50s identified by his surname Lee, an external structural engineer.
Police later formed a 50-member special investigation team led by Baek Seung-eon, Chief of the Metropolitan Criminal Investigation Unit at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, to determine the cause of the accident. Police are also conducting an on-site inspection with the National Forensic Service and other agencies, and are analyzing documents related to the demolition work on the Seosomun Overpass, including safety management plans submitted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, as well as CCTV footage from the scene at the time of the accident.
