[Financial News, New York = Reporter Lee Byung-chulAnthropic has overtaken OpenAI to take the top spot in Silicon Valley's ranking of AI company valuations. The company’s value has surged to nearly $965 billion, or about 1,400 trillion won, as revenue has jumped on the back of the hit AI coding service Claude Code. As major AI companies such as OpenAI and SpaceX prepare for initial public offerings, competition for leadership in the AI industry is intensifying.
On the 28th local time, Anthropic announced a $65 billion Series H funding round at a valuation of $965 billion. With this investment, the company has surpassed OpenAI in valuation and become Silicon Valley’s largest AI company.
The round was led by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer Investment Group, Greenoaks, and Sequoia Capital. Anthropic’s valuation has nearly tripled in just a few months, rising from around $380 billion in February.
By contrast, OpenAI completed a record $122 billion funding round in late March and was valued at $852 billion. The company, once seen as the undisputed leader in the AI market, has now been overtaken by Anthropic in terms of valuation.
Anthropic’s rapid growth has been driven by the AI coding market. The company said revenue has surged thanks to the popularity of Claude Code, its AI coding service for developers.
Anthropic said its annualized revenue reached about $47 billion on the day. That is a sharp increase from around $30 billion at the start of the year. Compared with last year’s annual revenue of $10 billion, the company has grown more than fourfold in just one year.
Anthropic also unveiled its latest AI model, Claude Opus 4.8, on the same day. Claude Mythos Preview, an advanced cybersecurity model available only to select companies, is also drawing strong interest on Wall Street.
Krishna Rao, Anthropic’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO), said in a statement, "Claude is becoming an increasingly indispensable tool for customers around the world." He added, "This investment will be used to meet rapidly growing demand, maintain our research competitiveness, and expand Claude services into more work environments."
