NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said Taiwan is the "epicenter of the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution" and announced plans to invest up to $150 billion a year. He also hinted that the company will soon unveil a new product that will surprise the world.
According to Taiwan’s Central News Agency and other outlets on the 27th local time, Huang made the sweeping investment pledge at the groundbreaking ceremony for NVIDIA’s Taiwan headquarters in Taipei. He said investment in Taiwan was in the range of $10 billion to $15 billion a year four to five years ago, but would now rise above $100 billion and reach as much as $150 billion. "Chips, advanced packaging, systems and AI supercomputers are all made in Taiwan," Huang said, adding that "Taiwan will continue to serve as the world’s technology manufacturing hub for a long time to come."
About 4,000 people are expected to work at NVIDIA Taiwan Headquarters, which broke ground with a target of starting operations in 2030. NVIDIA plans to use the site as a base to further strengthen its close ties with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (TSMC), the world’s largest foundry. It will also expand cooperation with local AI server makers such as Foxconn, Wistron Corporation and Quanta Computer. Huang said the second half of the year will be extremely busy because of demand for Grace Blackwell and the next-generation Vera Rubin platform. "The second half of this year will be the best half-year ever for both NVIDIA and Taiwan," he said. He also fueled market expectations with a surprise remark. "There is one amazing new product that I have not shown to anyone yet," he said, suggesting another announcement is coming soon. As for concerns that TSMC may lack advanced process capacity, Huang dismissed them, saying, "TSMC is the best company in the world," and adding that "TSMC and NVIDIA can succeed together."
