[Financial News] Shina Chung, CEO of Kakao, apologized to employees over growing internal uncertainty, including the labor union's warning of a possible strike next month. She also announced plans to redesign parts of the organization around a user-centered structure.
According to the information technology industry on the 28th, Chung said in an internal notice that morning, "I sincerely apologize for failing to quickly resolve various concerns and uncertainties."
Chung said, "I also take seriously the fact that the prolonged talks have made our crew wait even longer." She added, "Although we have not yet narrowed our differences enough, we are ultimately crew members who must work together inside Kakao and move in the same direction."
She continued, "I will work even harder so that we can listen more closely to one another, resolve our differences through dialogue, and come together again as one Kakao."
Chung also hinted at an organizational reshuffle, saying, "This is the time to establish a stable system at the company level, reset our standards from a service perspective, and align our direction together."
Kakao plans to split its existing product organization into two divisions, "KakaoTalk" and "Business," while integrating its previously scattered design teams to strengthen expertise in each area and improve collaboration synergies.
In addition, KakaoTalk will launch a new "User First TF" to strengthen communication with users and raise the overall quality of its services.
The Kakao labor union has already warned of a strike next month, citing differences with management over wages and performance bonuses.
