[Financial News] A partner company employee who stabbed an LG Electronics executive with a weapon at the company's office has been taken into police custody.
According to Financial News on the 27th, police arrested A, a man in his 60s who works for an LG Electronics partner company, at 11:58 a.m. on suspicion of aggravated assault.
A is accused of stabbing a man in his 50s and a man in his 40s, both employees of LG Electronics' VS Business Division, with a camping knife and fleeing from the second floor of LG Electronics' Science Park in Gangseo District, Seoul.
The victims suffered injuries to the side and arm, among other areas, and were taken to hospital, but their lives are not in danger.
Police had earlier responded at 11:18 a.m. after receiving a report that "two men were lying on the ground after being stabbed with a weapon." After launching a search for the suspect, officers found and arrested A near Digital Media City station in Seoul.
A, who had worked for two years on a joint project in the same office as the victims, reportedly claimed that he had been bullied by them and that he committed the crime impulsively after receiving a termination notice that day.
An LG Electronics official, however, said, "The headquarters does not have the authority to dismiss employees of a partner company." The official added, "It was not even a dismissal notice. We merely suggested to the partner company that the employee be moved from the project he was working on to another project."
Regarding workplace bullying, the official said, "That is something that will be determined during the investigation," and added, "There had previously been no internal complaints or reports related to the matter."
Police are questioning A to determine the exact motive and circumstances of the attack.
