[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung urged officials on the 27th to devote all-out efforts to the remaining preparations for the 48th Session of the World Heritage Committee, which will be held in Busan, saying, "With South Korea's national standing at stake, please prepare thoroughly over the remaining period with a strong sense of responsibility."
In his opening remarks at a briefing on preparations for the 48th Session of the World Heritage Committee held that day in Haeundae District, Busan, Lee said, "I am very pleased that Busan will host the world's largest event in the field of world heritage," and added, "I would like to express my gratitude."
Lee said, "Busan, which served as a wartime refuge capital during the Korean War and a gateway for international aid, is now emerging as a global maritime city." He added, "Busan is the best place to share South Korea's success story and narrative of growth with the world."
He went on to say, "Hosting the 48th Session of the World Heritage Committee is an important opportunity to showcase South Korea's advanced cultural capabilities and global leadership on the world stage." He added, "I hope it will widely promote the true value of South Korea's heritage, the so-called K-Heritage."
Lee said, "The driving force behind K-culture, which leads global culture, is none other than K-Heritage." He added, "In the face of the climate crisis, geopolitical risks, and the turbulence of development, South Korea must take the lead in mobilizing international solidarity and cooperation to preserve humanity's shared heritage intact."
He also noted that less than two months remain before the World Heritage Committee meeting and called for thorough preparations.
Lee said, "Since South Korea joined the World Heritage Convention in 1988, this will be the first UNESCO World Heritage Committee meeting held in the country in 38 years, so meticulous and comprehensive preparations are needed for a successful event."
Lee outlined several tasks for a successful event, including safe and comfortable management of the international conference, one-team cooperation among relevant agencies, and efforts to boost the local economy.
He said, "We need thorough preparations in every area, including transportation, lodging, and public safety, so that delegates and experts from 196 countries do not face any inconvenience." He added, "Relevant agencies must communicate closely and establish a field-based response system that can handle any unexpected situation."
He also said, "We must ensure that the committee meeting leads to renewed vitality in the local economy." He added, "By carefully planning attractive cultural events and linked tourism programs in advance, I hope this opportunity will make Busan and nearby areas bustling with foreign visitors."
