[Financial News] U.S. President Donald Trump directly lashed out at criticism over what some called a giveaway-style deal in the ceasefire negotiations with Iran.
With the ink on the proposal still barely dry, he drew a sharp line against the criticism pouring in from media reports alone, calling it "losers' nonsense."
On the 24th (local time), President Donald Trump expressed strong confidence in the ongoing agreement with Iran through his social media platform Truth Social. He said, "If I make a deal, it will be perfect and appropriate," adding, "It will be nothing like the terrible deal under the Obama administration, which handed Iran a huge amount of cash and opened the highway to nuclear weapons development."
He also made no effort to hide his displeasure over the leaked draft of the so-called "60-day ceasefire and opening of the Strait of Hormuz" Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
President Donald Trump said, "No one has even seen the actual contents, yet they are already flooding the air with criticism," and added, "I will never sign a bad deal like my predecessors did."
Trump's heated response appears to be linked to growing unease within the Republican Party.
Even Senator Lindsey Graham, one of his closest allies, warned against excessive concessions to Iran and fired back, saying, "If that's the case, why start the war in the first place?" As conservative voices complained that the deal could only elevate Iran's standing in the region, Trump is seen as stepping in to calm the backlash himself.
In the end, the card President Donald Trump chose was to slow things down.
His instruction to the negotiating team to "never rush" in order to ease concerns over a hastily arranged deal is being interpreted as a strong show of his determination as a dealmaker to reshape the final outcome through brinkmanship in a way that heavily favors the United States.
