President Lee’s approval rating rises to 64%, up 3 points from the previous week; Democratic Party at 45%, PPP at 22%

[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung’s approval rating for running state affairs rose to 64%, up 3 percentage points in just one week.
The result, released on the 22nd by Gallup Korea Research Institute, was based on a survey of 1,002 voters aged 18 and older nationwide from May 19 to 21, asking them to evaluate Lee’s performance in office.
The share of respondents who said he was doing a poor job was 28%, unchanged from the previous survey. Another 8% said they had no opinion.
Among those who gave a positive assessment, the most common reason was “economy and livelihoods” at 24%.
That was followed by “diplomacy” at 12%, “job performance and competence” at 7%, and “pro-ordinary people policies and welfare” and “communication” at 6% each.
The biggest reason for negative evaluations was “excessive welfare and livelihood support payments,” cited by 13%.
Next came “economy, livelihoods and the strong won” at 11%, “moral issues and avoiding his own trial” at 10%, and “diplomacy” at 9%.
In party support, the Democratic Party of Korea was at 45%, while the People Power Party (PPP) stood at 22%.
The Democratic Party was unchanged from the previous survey, while the PPP fell 1 point.
The Reform Party (South Korea) followed at 3%, the Rebuilding Korea Party at 2%, and the Progressive Party at 1%. Undecided respondents, or those with no preferred party, accounted for 26%.
The survey was conducted by telephone interview (CATI) using randomly selected virtual mobile numbers.
