[Financial News] Chinese President Xi Jinping is reportedly expected to make a state visit to North Korea as early as next week.
Time reported on the 20th, local time, citing an anonymous source, that "China and North Korea will work more closely together against Japan's new militarism," and said preparations for Xi's state visit are under way.
Time noted that Xi's move is being interpreted as a response to Japan's shift away from its long-held pacifist stance toward a more assertive geopolitical posture.
Since Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi took office, Japan has further strengthened its security policy, including lifting a 60-year-old ban on exports of lethal weapons and pushing for constitutional revisions to explicitly mention the JSDF. However, Xi's visit to North Korea has not yet been officially announced.
Xi visited Pyongyang in June 2019, becoming the first Chinese president to do so, and held a summit with Kim Jong Un, the President of the State Affairs Commission of North Korea.
