\r\n[Financial News] Cheong Wa Dae said on the 20th that it was "deeply regrettable that the post-arbitration mediation by the National Labor Relations Commission ended in failure," after wage negotiations between Samsung Electronics and its labor union failed to reach an agreement even through the government-led mediation process, prompting the union to declare a general strike on the 21st.
Kang Yoo-jung, senior presidential spokesperson at Cheong Wa Dae, said in a press notice that day, "Even before the final deadline, we hope both sides will do their utmost to reach an agreement, taking into account concerns about the impact on the Korean economy," stressing the point.
Earlier, the National Labor Relations Commission announced that the second post-arbitration mediation between Samsung Electronics and its labor union had collapsed.
Meanwhile, after Prime Minister of South Korea Kim Min-seok suggested the possibility of invoking emergency arbitration, saying that "all possible response measures, including emergency mediation, must be considered" in response to the Samsung Electronics union's strike, the commission plans to make one last attempt at additional post-arbitration mediation.
