[The Financial News] It has been reported that U.S. President Donald Trump is keeping a 'secret will' addressed to Vice President JD Vance in the White House Oval Office in case he is assassinated.
On the 18th local time, Fox News reported that Sebastian Gorka, a former deputy national security adviser at the White House National Security Council, recently mentioned Trump's secret letter on the "Pod Force One" podcast.
Gorka said, "A letter from the president to Vice President Vance is kept on the Resolute Desk in case of an emergency." The Resolute Desk refers to the president's desk in the White House Oval Office, and under the U.S. Constitution, the vice president is first in the line of succession if the president is unable to serve.
Gorka gave that answer when asked whether Trump could face danger from hostile foreign forces during his visit to China. A White House spokesperson reportedly responded by referring to Trump's January interview with NewsNation. At the time, Trump said that if Iran were to assassinate him, "there are firm instructions."
Meanwhile, Trump has faced multiple death threats before and after taking office. During a U.S. presidential campaign rally in July 2024, he narrowly survived after a bullet fired by an assassination attempt suspect grazed his right ear. In September of the same year, a man hiding in bushes and aiming a rifle at him was discovered at Trump National Golf Club in Florida.
Concerns about an assassination have grown further as public sentiment toward him has sharply worsened at home and abroad since the outbreak of the Iran war in February. On the 25th of last month, gunman Cole Tomas Allen was subdued at the entrance while trying to enter the White House Correspondents' Dinner venue, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security acknowledged that the U.S. attack on Iran may have prompted Allen's crime.
