International oil prices edged lower on the 19th (local time).
The market took a wait-and-see approach after President Donald Trump said Iran had been given a two- to three-day deadline and that attacks could resume later this week, or perhaps early next week.
Brent Crude Oil for July delivery, the global benchmark, closed at $111.37 per barrel, down $0.73, or 0.65%, from the previous session.
WTI for June delivery, the U.S. benchmark, ended the session down $0.89, or 0.82%, at $107.77 per barrel.
At the White House construction site for the banquet hall, President Donald Trump told reporters that the United States may have to carry out "another major attack" on Iran. Trump also claimed that the planned attack on Iran on the 19th had been postponed at the request of Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and that the decision was made just "one hour" before it was to be carried out. He appeared to be stressing that the United States was ready to resume strikes on Iran at any time.
Trump then pressured Iran, saying the time it had been given was "limited" and that a deal had to be reached within that window. He added that the deadline was "two or three days, maybe Friday, Saturday, Sunday, perhaps early next week."
Meanwhile, according to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), the U.S. military seized an oil tanker linked to Iran in the Indian Ocean overnight.
