[The Financial News] As a court partially granted Samsung Electronics' request on the 18th for an injunction banning illegal strike activity against the trade union, the company notified the union of the number of operating staff needed to maintain safety and security in the event of a general strike.
In a written response sent on the 19th to the Samsung Group Enterprise-Level Labor Union, Samsung Electronics Branch, and the National Samsung Electronics Union, Samsung Electronics said, "The company plans to draw up daily work schedules within the required staffing limits for each department, using the same staffing levels as usual, so that safety duties and security work can be maintained and operated normally during the period of industrial action."
The Suwon District Court ruled the previous day that, in response to Samsung Electronics' request for an injunction banning illegal strike activity, staffing for safety protection facilities, damage prevention, and product spoilage prevention must be maintained at normal levels. The court also barred the industrial union and Chairman Choi Seung-ho from occupying all or part of the facilities, installing locks, or obstructing workers' access.
Samsung Electronics said the daily required workforce under the injunction totals 7,087 people, including 2,396 for safety duties and 4,691 for security work.
The essential workforce for safety duties includes the fire prevention and disaster response team of the Global Manufacturing & Infrastructure Division (GMIN) and the data center team of the Artificial Intelligence Center. For security work, the company listed 2,454 workers in Memory Division, 162 in System LSI, 1,109 in Samsung Foundry, and 566 in the Semiconductor Research Center as essential personnel.
Samsung Electronics said, "We ask the union to guide members who have been notified of their schedules so they can report to work as normal and carry out safety duties and security work."
In response, the industrial union requested, "Please send materials that specify the number of workers by specific part in enough detail to allow direction of members in each part regarding whether they will participate in the dispute," and added, "Also, please assign non-members first so that the number of people whose basic rights are restricted can be minimized."
