\r\n[Financial News] Foreign Minister Cho Hyun has asked Iran to provide the facts and its official position regarding the attack on the Korean vessel HMM Namuho in the Strait of Hormuz.
\r\n
\r\nAccording to MOFA on the 17th, Cho held a phone call with Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran's foreign minister, in the afternoon. During the call, they discussed the latest situation in the Middle East and vessel safety in the Strait of Hormuz, along with the request.
Cho explained that the government is conducting further investigations into the recent attack on the Korean vessel HMM Namuho in the Strait of Hormuz. He then asked for Iran's position on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
\r\n
\r\nHe also stressed that, as the Strait of Hormuz is a key route for international maritime logistics, the safety and freedom of navigation of all vessels, including those from Korea, must be guaranteed.
\r\n
\r\nAraghchi explained Iran's position on the current situation in the Middle East and said he agreed that safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz should be restored as soon as possible. He also said tensions and standoffs in the strait need to end quickly.
The two sides agreed to maintain close communication to ensure the safety of Korean vessels and crew members sailing through the Strait of Hormuz.
This was the fourth phone call between the two foreign ministers since the outbreak of war between the United States and Iran in February. The call reportedly took place at the request of the Korean government.
