Choi Seung-ho, chairman of the Samsung Electronics branch of the supra-company union, answers questions from reporters after the second hearing on the injunction sought to ban the union's illegal strike action, held on the 13th at Suwon District Court in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province. News1
Financial News - The Samsung Electronics union said on the 17th that it would "faithfully take part in post-mediation." Samsung Electronics management and labor have already agreed to attend the second post-mediation meeting, which will be held on the 18th at the National Labor Relations Commission in Sejong City. Prime Minister of South Korea Kim Min-seok's public statement aimed at stopping the Samsung Electronics strike, Chairman of Samsung Electronics Lee Jae-yong's public apology, and growing public attention and criticism appear to be putting pressure on the union.
Choi Seung-ho, chairman of the Samsung Electronics supra-company union, said, "We have reviewed the prime minister's statement and will faithfully take part in post-mediation so that labor and management at Samsung Electronics can reach harmony."
In his public address, Prime Minister of South Korea Kim Min-seok said, "I ask the Samsung Electronics union to make efforts to find common ground through dialogue and compromise rather than insisting on a strike." He added, "If a situation arises in which a strike is expected to cause enormous damage to the national economy, the government cannot avoid exploring all possible response measures, including emergency mediation, to protect the economy." Choi said, "We have nothing to say about emergency mediation."
Kim also urged, "The talks on the 18th are in effect an opportunity to prevent a strike," adding, "Both labor and management must never take the weight of this meeting lightly."
