[The Financial News] Netflix appears to be moving into content production using Generative Artificial Intelligence (Generative AI). Attention is turning to whether the company will use AI across a wide range of formats, from short-form videos to feature-length content.
According to The Verge, Engadget, and other IT outlets on the 16th, Netflix recently launched an incubator called 'INKubator' dedicated to producing Generative AI content. Based on the posted job listings, the studio is expected to focus on short-form animation content centered on Generative AI-based production workflows and tools.
Engadget noted, however, that it may take some time before actual results are released, as hiring is still underway for key roles such as the head of technology. The initial goal is to produce animated shorts and special content, but the company is expected to expand the technology to a broader range of content over the long term. One job posting was also reported to say that the plan is to 'expand from short-form to feature-length content' in the future.
Netflix has already introduced AI technology into its advertising production process. It also acquired an AI film production technology company founded by actor and director Ben Affleck.
Industry observers say the incubator project could also align with Netflix's growing vertical short-form video strategy in its mobile app. They expect Generative AI-based animation content to be actively used in the company's mobile short-form services.
