[Financial News] U.S. President Donald Trump, who is on a state visit to China, said he held in-depth discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Iran and that the two countries agreed in opposing Iran's possession of nuclear weapons and in keeping the Strait of Hormuz open.
\r\nOn the final day of his visit to China on the 15th, Trump met Xi at Zhongnanhai in the heart of Beijing and later told reporters what had been discussed.
Trump said, "We solved a lot of problems that other people may not have been able to solve," emphasizing close coordination with Xi.
On the issue of the war with Iran, Trump said, "The United States and China have very similar ideas about how this should end," adding, "We do not want them to have nuclear weapons."
\r\nHe also took a clear position on the Strait of Hormuz, which is effectively closed by Iran at present. Trump stressed, "We want the strait to be open," calling for free passage through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route in the global energy supply chain.
