[Financial News] As candidate registration for the June 3 National Assembly by-elections gets underway, the average assets of the 39 candidates who registered on the first day were found to be about 1.902 billion won. The candidate with the largest assets was Kim Yong-nam of the Democratic Party of Korea, who reported 12.77049 billion won, while the candidate with the smallest assets was Shin Ji-hye of the Basic Income Party, who reported 31 million won.
According to the National Election Commission (NEC) on the 15th, the average assets of the 39 candidates who completed registration on the first day stood at 1.901885 billion won. The candidate with the most assets was Kim Yong-nam of the Democratic Party of Korea, who is running in the Pyeongtaek-eul, Gyeonggi constituency by-election, and reported 12.770497 billion won.
Lee Jin-sook of the People Power Party (PPP), who is running in the Dalseong County, Daegu by-election, reported 8.215392 billion won, followed by Cho Kuk of the Rebuilding Korea Party (RKP), who registered in the same constituency as Kim, with 5.667679 billion won.
Ha Jung-woo of the Democratic Party of Korea and Park Min-sik of the PPP, both running in the Busan Buk-gu-gap constituency by-election, reported assets of 4.248804 billion won and 3.592349 billion won, respectively. Han Dong-hoon, an independent candidate in the same district, is expected to disclose his assets on the 16th if he registers as scheduled on this day.
Lee Kwang-jae of the Democratic Party of Korea, who is running in Hanam-gap, Gyeonggi Province, reported 2.521944 billion won, while Lee Yong of the PPP reported 577.582 million won. Song Young-gil of the Democratic Party of Korea in Incheon Yeonsu A reported 902.86 million won, and Kim Eui-gyeom of the Democratic Party of Korea in Jeonbuk Gunsan-Gimje-Buan A reported 2.127918 billion won.
The candidate who reported the least assets was Shin Ji-hye of the Basic Income Party in Gwangju Gwangsan-eul, with 31 million won. By party, the average assets were 2.291299 billion won for Democratic Party of Korea candidates and 1.841615 billion won for PPP candidates.
The candidates' criminal records were also disclosed. Cho Kuk had two prior convictions, while Lee Kwang-jae had four. The candidate with the most prior convictions was Jeon Ju-yeon of the Progressive Party in Gwangju Gwangsan-eul, who had five.
