On the 15th, Jang Dong-joo said on his Instagram, "Today will be the last day I put down my life as an actor."
He reflected, "I have lived for a long time under the name of an actor and received so much love and support. Every moment I laughed and cried in front of the camera was the brightest time of my life."
He added, "I sincerely thank the directors, staff members, and fellow actors who believed in me despite my shortcomings and worked with me. Above all, I was able to walk this path happily until now thanks to my fans, who always stood by my side."
Jang Dong-joo said, "Although I am leaving the stage, I will never forget the feelings you sent me for the rest of my life." He added, "I am sorry to everyone who supported me." He also said, "I sincerely thank everyone who has loved actor Jang Dong-joo until now."
Previously, Jang Dong-joo disappeared after leaving a brief post saying, "I am sorry," on his Instagram in October last year.
At the time, his agency said, "We have lost contact with Jang Dong-joo," and later stated, "We have confirmed his whereabouts. Fortunately, the situation is not bad. We are sorry for causing concern."
Later, in November of that year, Jang Dong-joo said, "I sincerely apologize for causing concern because communication has not been smooth recently due to personal circumstances." He added, "Several issues overlapped, and I needed some time to reorganize myself."
In January this year, he also spoke about the pain he suffered from phone hacking and blackmail, saying he had suffered severe financial damage while trying to raise a large sum of money to respond to the hacker's threats.
Meanwhile, Jang Dong-joo made his debut in the 2017 drama "School 2017" and has since appeared in dramas such as "Class of Lies," "Let Me Be Your Knight," and "No Tail to Tell (Human from Today)."
