According to the video, on March 10, the Gangwon Provincial Police Agency received a report stating that "a malicious application (app) had been installed on a mobile phone. " Upon receiving the report, the detectives immediately went to find the caller to take action.
During this process, detectives learned that a voice phishing money collector was scheduled to visit that day and began staking out the area to apprehend him. Shortly after, the detectives spotted a man getting out of a taxi and heading toward the meeting place, and they closely monitored his movements.
The man, wearing a hat and mask, stopped in front of a house, reached into the mailbox to retrieve a card the victim had placed there beforehand, and calmly left the scene. It was reported that the card contained 50 million won.
Having captured the crime in progress, the detectives immediately began a pursuit. Upon spotting the detectives, the man threw away even the collected card and fled desperately.
A tense chase ensued, with the man seemingly on the verge of being caught, and during the struggle, one detective grabbed the man by the back of the neck, causing them to fall together. However, the man got up and fled again, and although the detective's shoe came off, he did not stop the chase barefoot.
Eventually, the detective threw himself in front of the man once again to catch him, bringing the pursuit, which lasted about three hours from stakeout to arrest, to a close. During the arrest, the detective suffered abrasions on his knee and his clothes became dirty, but he chased the suspect to the end and ultimately succeeded in apprehending him.
The police recovered evidence including three mobile phones, three hats, cash, and cards. A police official stated, "We apprehended the suspect after three hours of stakeout and chase, preventing a 50 million won fraud loss," adding, "We will continue to protect the peaceful daily lives of the citizens.
" Netizens who saw the video reacted with comments such as, "It must not be easy to throw yourself in front of the camera; the detectives are amazing," "He's like a real-life Ma Dong-seok," "The veteran detective is incredible. Please take care of your health and don't get hurt," and "I was moved by the sight of them making the arrest without sparing their own safety.
