[Financial News] President Donald Trump, who is visiting China, wrote on Truth Social on the 15th that he hopes relations with China will improve. He stressed that Chinese President Xi Jinping congratulated him on his achievements.
Trump wrote in the post, "The United States was declining two years ago, before I took office. But now the United States is the most talked-about country in the world." He added, "And I hope the relationship between the United States and China will become stronger and better than ever before."
Instead of explaining U.S.-China issues, Trump focused on boasting about his own record and attacking his predecessor. He wrote, "When Xi Jinping so graciously described the United States as perhaps a declining nation, he was referring to the tremendous damage caused by sleepy Joe Biden and the four years of the Biden administration." He continued, "He was not referring to the remarkable rise the United States has shown to the world during the Trump administration's brilliant 16 months."
In the same post, Trump boasted about the Trump administration's achievements over the past two years, citing strikes on Iran, improved relations with Venezuela, gains in the U.S. stock market, the attraction of $18 trillion in overseas investment, a better labor market, and the end of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies. Trump emphasized, "Xi Jinping congratulated me on my tremendous success over such a short period of time." He also claimed, "Two years ago, we were indeed a declining nation. On that point, I completely agree with Xi Jinping."
It has not been confirmed whether the remarks attributed to Xi Jinping in Trump's post were actually made during the U.S.-China summit on the 14th.
