KOSPI Comes Close to 8,000 on Retail Buying, Ends at 7,981.41 [fn Market Close]

[Financial News] The KOSPI Composite Index closed in the 7,980 range on the 14th, supported by retail buying. Expectations that it might break above 8,000 were high, but foreign selling remained strong.
The KOSPI Composite Index finished the session at 7,981.41, up 137.40 points, or 1.75%, from the previous trading day.
It opened at 7,873.91, up 29.90 points, or 0.38%, from the previous session. At around 10:38 a.m., the index briefly touched an intraday high of 7,991.04, but it quickly gave back its gains and even fell below the 7,900 level.
In the Korea Exchange Main Board Market, foreign investors sold 2.1674 trillion won worth of shares. Retail investors bought 1.8377 trillion won, while institutions purchased 189.7 billion won, helping lift the index.
Among the 14 largest stocks by market capitalization, Samsung Life Insurance rose 7.84%, followed by Samsung Electronics at 4.23%, Samsung C&T Corporation at 3.15%, and LG Energy Solution at 2.79%.
On the other hand, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) fell 8.46%, Doosan Enerbility dropped 2.42%, and SK Square declined 1.60%. The KOSDAQ closed at 1,191.09, up 14.16 points, or 1.20%, from the previous day. It opened at 1,187.02, up 10.09 points, or 0.86%, from the previous session's 1,176.93.
