Cho Jung-sik as its candidate for Speaker of the National Assembly for the second half of the 22nd National Assembly and Rep. Nam In-soon as its candidate for Deputy Speaker representing the ruling party through a general meeting of lawmakers the previous day. On the same day, the People Power Party selected Rep.
Park Deok-heum as its candidate for Deputy Speaker representing the opposition party. The Democratic Party is demanding that a plenary session be held on the upcoming 20th to proceed with a vote to finalize the new leadership. In addition, the Democratic Party's floor leadership requested that its lawmakers convey their preferences for standing committee assignments for the second half of the term by the 18th.
This indicates that preparations for negotiations on the composition of the Assembly are also accelerating. Floor Leader Han has previously stated that he would appoint his party members as chairpersons of economy-related standing committees, including the Political Affairs Committee, to complete the legislation for the Lee Jae-myung administration's national agenda by the end of this year.
Floor Leader Han emphasized, "We will ensure the National Assembly is operational immediately after the local elections. We will also swiftly finalize the composition of the standing committee chairpersons for the second half of the term to prevent any gaps in legislation regarding people's livelihoods.
