[Financial News] The identity of Jang Yoon-gi, 23, who fatally stabbed a high school girl he had never met on a street in downtown Gwangju, has been released.
On the 14th, the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency made public Jang Yoon-gi’s mugshot, name, and date of birth on its website from 7 a.m. that day. He is being held on charges including murder and attempted murder.
The released photo is the so-called mugshot taken by investigators at the time of his arrest.
Police decided to disclose his identity on the 8th, but because Jang did not consent, they waited through a five-day grace period before posting it on this day.
Jang, born in 2002, is 23 years old and was found to be unemployed at the time of his arrest.
He was urgently arrested and later detained on charges of murdering A, a 17-year-old second-year high school student, at around 12:11 a.m. on the 5th on a sparsely populated pedestrian path in Wolgye-dong, Gwangsan District, Gwangju, and of also brandishing a knife at another 17-year-old high school student, B.
As public outrage grew over the death of a young student on a downtown street, Jang’s real name and photo were also spread early through social networking service (SNS), just one day after the disclosure was delayed.
Jang is the first suspect in a violent crime in Gwangju whose identity has been disclosed.
Police plan to send Jang to prosecutors later this morning.
