[Financial News] The Blue House said on the 13th that, regarding Samsung Electronics union's announcement of a general strike on the 21st, "the government will actively support labor and management so they can resolve the issue through dialogue."
At a briefing at the Chunchugwan Press Center at the Blue House, senior spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung said this in response to a question about the government's position after labor-management talks at Samsung Electronics broke down. She noted that there is still time before the strike deadline.
Earlier, Prime Minister of South Korea Kim Min-seok was reported to have said, in connection with the possibility of a Samsung Electronics union strike, that a strike must never happen and that the government would support labor-management dialogue.
In response, Kang said, "The answer is already in what you just said," adding, "Until the strike deadline, the government will actively support labor and management so they can resolve the issue through dialogue."
Kang declined to answer questions about the possibility of blocking a strike through emergency arbitration or other measures. "There is still time left, so this is a matter to be addressed after supporting labor and management so they can work things out through dialogue," she said. "You can see it as time still remaining for labor-management talks."
