[Financial News] Cheong Wa Dae said on the 12th that it could not determine the type of aircraft involved, citing debris such as engine parts found on the HMM Namuho.
In a notice released that day, Cheong Wa Dae said it would identify the attacker, the exact type of aircraft, and its physical size through further investigation.
The statement suggests that although engine debris and other remains were found on the Namuho, authorities will not draw conclusions about the aircraft or the attacker until a detailed analysis is completed.
Earlier in the day, MOFA also said at its regular briefing that it was difficult to determine the type of aircraft or the attacker before the investigation was completed. Park Il, a MOFA spokesperson, said, "We will work to confirm additional facts and identify the attacker through analysis of the recovered engine debris," adding, "We will refrain from mentioning any specific country until the attacker is identified."
The government is pushing to bring the debris to South Korea for analysis by a specialized agency. The Namuho experienced an explosion and fire in waters near the UAE in the Strait of Hormuz on the 4th, and the government plans to determine the exact cause based on the results of the on-site investigation and debris analysis.
