KOSPI Falls to as Low as 7,421, Trades Around 7,630; Samsung Electronics and SK hynix Both Decline [fn Afternoon Market Update]

\r\n[Financial News] The KOSPI Composite Index fell to as low as 7,421 on the 12th before trimming losses and holding above the 7,630 level.
As of 1:30 p.m. that day, the KOSPI Composite Index was trading at 7,632.12, down 190.12 points, or 2.43%, from the previous session. It opened at 7,593.41, up 131.17 points, or 1.68%, from the previous close, and climbed as high as 7,999.67 before turning lower intraday and dropping to 7,421.71.
On the Korea Exchange Main Board, retail investors and institutions were net buyers of 484.43 billion won and 67.6 billion won, respectively. Foreign investors, meanwhile, were net sellers of 500.32 billion won.
Most sectors were in decline. Brokerage services (-6.96%), construction (-5.56%), electricity and gas (-3.97%), chemicals (-3.83%), medical and precision instruments (-3.62%), finance (-3.18%), and metals (-3.03%) posted the steepest losses. Telecommunications (2.32%), pharmaceuticals (0.30%), and transportation and warehousing (0.11%) were higher.
Among the large-cap stocks, most were weaker, including Samsung Electronics (-3.68%), SK hynix (-0.69%), SK Square (-5.22%), Hyundai Motor Company (-1.55%), LG Energy Solution (-5.45%), and Doosan Enerbility (-2.19%). However, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (2.77%) and Samsung Electro-Mechanics (5.11%) were higher.
At the same time, the KOSDAQ was trading at 1,178.08, down 29.26 points, or 2.42%, from the previous session. It also opened higher, at 1,214.90, up 7.56 points, or 0.63%, before reversing course.
On the KOSDAQ, foreign investors and institutions were buying 269.1 billion won and 14.3 billion won worth of shares, respectively. Retail investors were selling 257.2 billion won worth.
