[The Financial News] Han Jeoung-ae, chair of the DPK policy committee, sharply criticized Choo Kyung-ho, the People Power Party candidate for mayor of Daegu, on the 12th, saying he should first apologize for obstructing Daegu-related policies when he served as deputy prime minister for economic affairs.
At a floor leadership strategy meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Han said, "Candidate Choo belittled Kim Boo-kyum's promise to secure funding for the new airport as a 'freebie.' That is the height of shamelessness," adding, "Before talking about Daegu's future, he should first apologize for the policy obstruction he carried out against Daegu while he was the top economic policymaker."
He said, "Candidate Choo has no right to speak on the issue of the Daegu–Gyeongbuk (TK) Integrated New Airport," and added, "Now he is urging the project to be turned into a national undertaking, saying it is unprecedented for local governments to bear the relocation costs. As deputy prime minister, he said it could not be done, but now that he is running for mayor, he says he can get it done."
He went on to ask, "Why is someone who, as head of the economic ministries, did nothing to help with the major state project of relocating the military airport, which Daegu residents have long hoped for, now demanding that the government provide the budget after entering the race for mayor of Daegu? Does he think the money was reserved for him?"
Han also took aim at Choo over Daegu-Gyeongbuk Administrative Integration, saying he was responsible for the issue.
Han said, "Candidate Choo has no right to speak on the issue of TK integration," and claimed, "According to Vice Speaker Joo Ho-young, he is someone who is suspected of mobilizing city council members from his own district to oppose the integration."
She continued, "Vice Speaker Joo argues that the Daegu City Council's adoption of a resolution opposing integration just one day before the bill passed was the most decisive factor in the collapse of the plan. The chair of the council's steering committee who led that effort was a city council member from Dalseong County, Choo's district," adding, "There is no way a city council member would have led this without Choo's tacit approval or consent. Choo is the very person suspected of blocking a budget of 5 trillion won a year, or 20 trillion won over four years, from being invested in TK."
