[The Financial News] A man in his 20s who was arrested on suspicion of stabbing a high school girl to death with a weapon while she was walking home has been found to have been charged the day before the attack with stalking and sexually assaulting a female co-worker.
According to the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency and others on the 11th, a complaint was filed at a police station in North Gyeongsang Province on the 4th, one day before the incident, alleging that Jang Mo, 24, had stalked a female co-worker and committed sexual assault.
The complainant was a foreign woman who had worked part-time with Jang. She reportedly claimed that Jang came to her home in the early hours of the 3rd, assaulted her, and sexually assaulted her.
That afternoon, while she was packing her belongings to leave for another region in a hurry, she spotted Jang wandering nearby and reported him on suspicion of stalking, according to the report.
She later moved to another area immediately after reporting the stalking, and the next day filed a complaint with the police station in charge of her new residence, alleging sexual assault. The case has been transferred to the Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station, which is now verifying the facts.
Earlier, Jang was arrested by police for allegedly stabbing A, 17, multiple times with a weapon at around 12:10 a.m. on May 5, Children's Day, on a road near a high school in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, killing her, and attempting to kill B, a boy of the same age who came after hearing her screams.
Investigators said Jang bought two weapons for the attack starting on the 3rd, after the woman he had stalked left the area, and then roamed around downtown.
Police are focusing their investigation on whether the attack was premeditated, based on forensic analysis of the mobile phone Jang had at the time of his arrest and the results of a criminal psychological assessment.
Meanwhile, a psychopathy checklist administered by police showed that Jang did not meet the criteria for antisocial personality disorder.
