President of the United States Donald Trump said on the 11th, local time, that the ceasefire with Iran was in its weakest state and "like being on life support." His remarks suggested that the United States is ready to resume the war at any time.
Trump also said he could restart "Operation Sentinel," the escort mission in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to CNBC and other foreign media, Trump said at an event at the White House that Iran had made a "stupid proposal" the previous day through mediator Pakistan, and that no one would accept such a peace plan.
He said the ceasefire with Iran was still in place, but added that it was "incredibly weak" and that he would call it the weakest state. He stressed that the truce was being maintained only barely.
Trump then said, "I didn't even finish reading the garbage they sent..." and made clear that the ceasefire with Iran was "on life support."
In his Fox News interview, Trump also suggested that he could resume Operation Sentinel, which helps merchant ships trapped in the Strait of Hormuz escape.
According to Fox News, Trump said in the interview that he was considering restarting the operation and hinted that it could be relaunched on a larger scale than before. He added, however, that no final decision had been made yet.
By rejecting Iran's peace proposal as "garbage" and suggesting that the blockade of the strait, one of Tehran's key cards, could be broken through Operation Sentinel, Trump appears to be pressuring Iran to make further concessions.
Meanwhile, international oil prices jumped 4% on the day after the United States rejected Iran's peace proposal.
Despite the surge in oil prices, the New York Stock Exchange saw the S&P 500 and the NASDAQ hit record highs for a second straight trading day, following the previous weekend.
