DPK lawmakers Kim Young-bae, Lee Jae-gang, and Lee Yong-seon, who serve on the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee of the National Assembly, held a press conference at the National Assembly press briefing room on the 11th and said, "The government is reporting to the public without concealment, while also focusing on carefully, but thoroughly, confirming the facts to the end."
Earlier, the Government Joint Investigation Team announced that its first on-site inspection found that two unidentified flying objects, believed to be missiles or suicide drones, struck the vessel. The United States government said Iran was responsible for the attack, while Iran has denied the allegation. South Korea’s government is taking a cautious stance and wants to identify the attacker through a second on-site investigation that includes the Ministry of National Defense.
Regarding the case, Lee Yong-seon said, "Given that the scale of the damage was not large, it does not appear to have been an Iranian Shahed drone." He added, "A close review of the type and the actor involved is necessary. Since the joint investigation is being carried out with the cooperation of the military and the U.S. military, we need to wait and see." He also dismissed the People Power Party’s criticism that the party was avoiding responsible debate, calling it "false information."
\r\nThe People Power Party is calling for a plenary session of the FAUC and a question-and-answer session between the 11th and 13th, while the DPK wants it held on the 19th or 20th. Kim Young-bae, the ruling party secretary of the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee, said, "We are absolutely not trying to avoid it. But saying that the DPK is trying to avoid holding the standing committee is highly inappropriate and untrue." He added, "I suspect they are trying to use this as material for the local elections and for political strife."
