[Financial News] Police have investigated accounts that posted and spread false information related to the Arab-Israeli conflict and have arrested 10 people so far.
The Korean National Police Agency said in a press notice on the 11th that it is investigating 38 accounts, led by the Provincial and Metropolitan Police Agency Cyber Investigation Unit, and has arrested 10 people so far.
By type, five people were arrested over claims related to 900,000 barrels of crude oil allegedly entering North Korea, while another five were arrested on suspicion of spreading false information about emergency financial measures, including forced dollar sales and foreign exchange restrictions.
Police requested the deletion of posts from the 38 accounts under investigation and confirmed that posts from 21 of them had actually been removed.
In particular, as the police investigation gained momentum, some suspects corrected their posts or uploaded apologies before or after appearing for questioning, and voluntarily deleted the posts.
A police official said, "We will swiftly investigate the other accounts currently under investigation as well," adding, "We plan to actively respond to malicious and organized false information related to the Arab-Israeli conflict that causes social confusion."
