[Financial News] The People Power Party said it will form its central election committee for the June 3 local elections before the 14th, when candidate registration begins. It also dismissed claims that party leader Jang Dong-hyuk may be left out of the committee chairmanship, saying it would not depart from the precedent of the party leader serving concurrently as election committee chair.
\rPark Sung-hoon, the party's Chief Spokesperson, told reporters after a Supreme Council meeting at the National Assembly on the 11th, "Since candidate registration will take place this Thursday and Friday, we will form and announce the election committee before then."
\rThe Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) launched its 'National Normalization Election Committee of the Republic of Korea' on the 10th. Asked about criticism that the People Power Party's committee is being launched later than the DPK's, Park explained, "We are working to bring in figures who can help secure victory in the local elections and who have the broad appeal to rally traditional conservative supporters while also reaching centrist and unaffiliated voters."
\rMeanwhile, at the same Supreme Council meeting, the People Power Party leadership appointed former MBC announcer Lee Seong-bae, who had been the party's candidate for governor of Gyeonggi Province, as Public Affairs Special Adviser, and former Seongbuk B district committee chair Lee Sang-gyu, who had applied to run for Seoul mayor, as a policy adviser. They will serve in advisory roles during the local election campaign.
