[The Financial News] The ultra-low-cost sanitary pads introduced by Homeplus have gained popularity, selling more than 150,000 packs within two months of launch. As the burden of everyday essentials has grown amid high inflation, consumers appear to have flocked to products with strong price competitiveness.
Homeplus said on the 11th that it launched four types of 'Sally's Law Nizone Sanitary Pads' in late February and four types of 'It's Me Pure Sanitary Pads' in March, bringing the total to eight ultra-low-cost sanitary pad products now on sale. The medium-size versions of both products were priced in the 98-won range, or less than 100 won per pad.
Despite the low price, word spread that the quality was good, helping drive sales. The products also received strong consumer response, with online ratings of 4.7 stars or higher among shoppers looking for value-for-money items.
Last month, Homeplus sold some products for 1,000 won per pack. It also expanded related promotions online, including a 10,000-won coupon discount for purchases of 30,000 won or more in daily necessities, including the ultra-low-cost sanitary pads.
Recently, retailers and manufacturers have entered a race to offer ultra-low-cost products as public concern over the price burden of sanitary pads has grown. The trend accelerated after President Lee Jae Myung said that sanitary pads are expensive.
Since then, retailers and manufacturers have rushed to launch low-priced sanitary pads centered on private-label products and large-volume packs, intensifying price competition.
Homeplus said, "Ultra-low-cost sanitary pads made in Korea are becoming highly popular because they are not only hygiene products but also inexpensive amid rising prices for everyday essentials overall."
