[Financial News] President Lee Jae-myung welcomed an internal investigation by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC), which found that former Vice Chair and Secretary-General Jeong Seung-yun had inappropriately intervened in the handling of a helicopter transfer report after Lee was attacked with a knife in 2024, when he was leader of the Democratic Party of Korea. He said he would "devote my full loyalty and all my efforts to the people, who are like heaven."
On the 9th, Lee shared a news article on X about the ACRC's findings released on the 8th and made the remarks.
Lee wrote, "Judicial killing through fabricated indictments by the Prosecution Service, knife murder by a terrorist, and honor killing through manipulated media. The people, who are like heaven, saved me from these three grave threats, so my life now belongs entirely to the people."
He added, "Heaven entrusted me not only with preserving my life but also with greater responsibilities, so my only task is to build a country for the people, a power structure that works only for the people." He continued, "To the people, I am simply grateful. Until my very last moment, even if it means my body is broken, I will devote my full loyalty and all my efforts to the people, who are like heaven."
Earlier, the ACRC said in its report on the results of the Normalization Promotion Task Force that there had also been problems in how it handled the so-called "special helicopter transfer" controversy that arose in 2024, when Lee was the Democratic Party of Korea leader.
According to the report, Jeong, then secretary-general, had included matters in the resolution that were not discussed at the meeting and instructed officials to notify medical staff of a code-of-conduct violation, contrary to the opinion of the relevant department. The TF explained, "Considering additional statements confirming during the investigation that the transfer between Seoul National University Hospital and Pusan National University Hospital, as well as the helicopter transport, were carried out within the scope of authority, it was inappropriate to regard the case as a code-of-conduct violation at the time."
