[The Financial News] Samsung Electronics' largest union, the trans-enterprise union representing a majority of workers, will enter post-mediation procedures with management.
The Samsung Electronics labor union said on the 8th that it would "move to resume negotiations through post-mediation procedures." It added that, around 2 p.m. that day, it held a tripartite meeting involving labor, management and government after meeting with Kim Do-hyung, head of the Gyeonggi District Employment and Labor Office.
The union said, "MOEL fully recognized the seriousness of this case, promised full government-level support for the negotiations, and strongly recommended post-mediation procedures."
It added, "We took the government side's active stance and repeated requests seriously, and after internal review, decided to accept the post-mediation process." It also said, "This case was handled by representatives because bargaining rights and signing authority were delegated to the Trans-Enterprise Labor Union Samsung Electronics Branch."
Choi Seung-ho, chairman of the Trans-Enterprise Labor Union Samsung Electronics Branch, stressed, "If the result does not satisfy our members, we will not hesitate to launch a general strike."
The labor-side members who will take part in the mediation are Choi Seung-ho, Lee Song-i and Kim Jae-won. The union said, "Post-mediation is scheduled to be carried out intensively over two days, from the 11th to the 12th, and we will do our utmost to ensure that preparations for a general strike are not disrupted."
