[Financial News] Police have dismissed a complaint filed by a civic group alleging that Kim Hyun-ji, First Deputy Chief of the Presidential Secretariat, abused her authority by failing to disclose personal information such as her age and educational background.
According to police on the 8th, Yongsan Police Station in Seoul said it dismissed the civic group's complaint on the 27th of last month, which accused Kim of abusing her authority for that reason.
A dismissal is a decision to close a complaint without launching an investigation because it does not meet formal requirements.
Police explained the reason for the dismissal, saying, "The claim that the public's right to know was violated cannot be seen as substantially or concretely unlawful or improper," and, "There is insufficient evidence to prove the suspect's alleged offense otherwise."
Police also dismissed allegations that Kim abused her authority by contacting Kang Sun-woo, then a candidate for Minister of Gender Equality and Family and an independent politician, and saying, 'I think you should step down as a ministerial candidate.'
On that allegation, police said, "There are no evidentiary materials other than speculative media reports, so the facts cannot be verified," adding, "There are not enough specific grounds or circumstances to justify an investigation."
Earlier, the Committee for the Protection of Ordinary People's Livelihood filed a complaint with police in October last year, alleging that Kim, a senior government official, violated the public's right to know by refusing to disclose her personal background and pressured Kang to withdraw as a candidate.
