\r\n[Financial News] Chef Sung Anh issued a formal apology about two weeks after allegations emerged that a bottle of wine at his Michelin 2-Star restaurant, Mosu Seoul, had been switched. However, he is now facing fierce criticism from internet users after posting a new video on his YouTube channel immediately after apologizing.
The controversy arose when a highlight video was uploaded instead of the content originally announced. Because it came right after the restaurant acknowledged its poor response and weak service management, questions have grown over how sincere the apology really was.
On the 6th, a video titled "4 Late-Night Snack Menus to Recommend on a Hungry Night | Sung Anh" was released on Sung Anh's YouTube channel.
In the description, the production team said, "Today's scheduled content has been replaced with a highlight reel of late-night snack menus. We ask for the generous understanding of our subscribers who were waiting to watch."
It added, "Today, we put together recipes for Gat-kimchi fish cake noodle soup, Bunmoja tteokbokki, Gambas al Ajillo and stir-fried spinach with mala sauce, and an easy stir-fried beef brisket dish that were introduced as upgraded menu items. We hope you can turn them into new recipes that suit your taste on a hungry night."
The team also said, "Please enjoy today's video as well. We'll see you again next week. Meet us every Wednesday at 6:45 p.m. for an even better experience."
Internet users responded with harsh criticism in the comments. Many posted negative reactions such as, "His mentality is 3-star," and "Is this really the right time to upload this? Just like tasting food, shouldn't he also read the room?"
Before posting the video, Sung Anh uploaded a statement to his social networking service (SNS) account and said, "I once again sincerely apologize for disappointing customers because of the inadequate service at Mosu, my restaurant."
He added, "The sommelier involved was required to submit a written report in accordance with company rules, and we have taken steps to remove that person from the sommelier position responsible for handling customers' wine."
Previously, a user identified as A posted on an online community on the 21st of last month under the title, "I was given a vintage switch at Mosu." The writer claimed that when visiting Mosu on the 18th of last month, they should have been served a 2000 vintage of Château Léoville Barton as a pairing wine, but the sommelier instead served a 2005 vintage that cost about 100,000 won less per bottle. They also said no proper apology was offered even after they raised the issue.
Mosu Seoul later released an official statement, but consumer backlash over the sincerity of the apology only intensified. In particular, critics pointed to the lack of a detailed explanation of how the wrong wine was served, whether it was a simple mistake or intentional, and the absence of effective measures to prevent a repeat.
