[Financial News] In the first quarter of this year, five of the world’s 10 best-selling smartphone models were Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.’s budget Samsung Galaxy A series phones. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. placed the most models in the global top 10 among smartphone makers.
According to Counterpoint Research on the 7th, the combined share of the world’s top 10 smartphone models in the first quarter was 25%. That is the highest ever for a first quarter.
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. had five models in the rankings. The Samsung Galaxy A07 4G (4th), Samsung Galaxy A17 5G (5th), Samsung Galaxy A56 5G (7th), Samsung Galaxy A36 5G (8th), and Samsung Galaxy A17 4G (9th) were all Samsung Galaxy A series models.
In particular, the Samsung Galaxy A07 4G was the best-selling Android smartphone in the first quarter. Its strong sales in emerging markets such as the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America were seen as the main reason.
Apple Inc. swept the top three spots. The Apple iPhone 17, released in the second half of last year, ranked first with a 6% share. The iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone 17 Pro followed. Apple iPhone 16 came in sixth.
Counterpoint Research said the strong performance appears to reflect major upgrades in the iPhone 17 series, including expanded base storage, improved camera performance, and a higher display refresh rate.
The firm added that the iPhone 17 series posted double-digit growth in key markets such as China and the United States, while sales in Korea tripled from the previous quarter.
Xiaomi’s Redmi A5 ranked 10th. Among the top 10 smartphone models by sales, Xiaomi was the only Chinese brand to make the list.
Khan Chohan, a senior research engineer at Counterpoint Research, said, "Market slowdown will affect the mass-market segment, but premium smartphones are expected to continue gaining share."
