[Financial News] Bae Hyun-jin of the People Power Party, a pro-Han faction lawmaker, criticized the second comprehensive special prosecutor led by Kwon Chang-young for imposing a travel ban on former party leader Han Dong-hoon, saying, "Does he not watch the news? He has already declared his candidacy."
On the 5th, Bae wrote on her Facebook page, "This isn't some all-purpose special prosecutor for the U.S. or anything. What kind of absurd travel ban is this for someone who will, at minimum, only be stepping on Busan soil until June 3?"
That same day, the special prosecutor's team issued a notice to the press and said it had placed Han under a travel ban. The move came after a complaint was filed in connection with allegations that the Office of the President interfered in an investigation by the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office.
The special prosecutor has recently been investigating the Ssangbangwool North Korea remittance case under the label of alleged interference by the Office of the President in the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office investigation. It said the Yoon Suk Yeol administration's presidential office had tried to interfere in the case and suggested that a "massive abuse of power" may have occurred.
Han's travel ban is in effect until the 12th of this month. He is running as an independent in the Busan Buk-gap constituency by-election, which will be held alongside the June 3 local elections.
Han also posted on Facebook, saying, "Last year, the Special Prosecutor for the Chae Soogeun Case imposed a travel ban on me for absurd reasons and carried out a political investigation that ended without even one interview. This special prosecutor is repeating the same overreach," and added, "The DPK could not even summon me as a witness for a parliamentary inquiry aimed at dropping Lee Jae-myung's indictment, yet the DPK and political prosecutors keep staging a show." He went on to say, "I will say the same thing again this time: 'Go ahead and try if you want.'" He added, "But election interference is not allowed."
About three hours later, Han posted again, saying, "The special prosecutor said it placed me under a travel ban on suspicion of unlawfully interfering in the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office investigation into the Ssangbangwool North Korea remittance case. That makes no sense at all," and added, "The comprehensive special prosecutor, acting as a stooge for the DPK, was secretly imposing a travel ban behind the scenes."
He then said, "April 13, the date of the travel ban, was coincidentally the day I told the public that I had found a home in Mandeok-dong, Buk-gu, Busan," and denounced it as "petty election interference."
