[Financial News]"Get lost, ugly woman."At 4:10 a.m. on August 21 last year, A, a 29-year-old woman, was sitting on a street in Gwangjin District, Seoul, after drinking until dawn. She was taken into protective custody by police who responded to a 112 Police Emergency Number report saying that a woman was drunk and asleep.
Police placed her in a patrol car and moved her to the nearby Hwayang Police Substation for her safety, but the trouble began there.
After arriving at the substation, A became enraged when she was prevented from going home and began hurling abuse at officers. She said, "Get lost, ugly woman," then kicked one officer twice in the shin with her shoes on, punched another officer in the chest, and spat on yet another officer.
The rampage did not end there. A grabbed the substation's front door and shook it, then kicked it repeatedly. She even bit and damaged a sofa inside the substation, causing about 66,000 won in repair costs.
Investigators found that during the incident, A shouted profanities such as "Find my cellphone," "You cops," and "You ugly bastards," and caused a disturbance inside the substation for about 30 minutes.
The assault and disorderly conduct went beyond simple drunken behavior and led to criminal punishment. On the 21st of last month, Criminal Division 7, Single Judge of the Seoul Eastern District Court, presided over by Judge Lee Joon-gu, fined A after she was indicted on charges of obstruction of official duties, damage to public property, and violation of the Minor Offenses Punishment Act.
The court said, "She assaulted police officers, obstructed their duties, damaged property at the substation, and caused a drunken disturbance at a government office, so the offense is not light." It added, "She did not receive forgiveness from the victim officers." However, the court explained the sentencing by noting that "A admitted to the charges and showed remorse, the damage from the public property offense was not severe and some losses were recovered by paying for the sofa repair, and she had no prior criminal record."
After the trial, A was ordered to pay a fine of 7 million won.
