[The Financial News] A second South Korean vessel has taken the detour through the Red Sea and is transporting crude oil back to South Korea after the Strait of Hormuz was blocked.
As of 10 a.m. on the 3rd, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) said the second South Korean vessel had safely passed through the Red Sea and was carrying crude oil to South Korea.
Earlier, the MOF announced on the 17th of last month that a South Korean vessel had loaded crude oil at Yanbu Port in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and set sail for South Korea.
As the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for crude oil shipments, remains blocked amid the fallout from the war in the Middle East, additional shipments via the Red Sea detour are expected to ease concerns over disruptions to South Korea's crude oil supply.
The MOF said, "While the vessel was sailing through the Red Sea, we supported the safety of the ship and crew through 24-hour real-time monitoring, navigation safety information, and a live communication channel among the ministry, the shipping company, and the vessel." It added, "We will continue to do our best to stabilize South Korea's crude oil supply."
