\r\n【The Financial News Ulsan = Reporter Choi Soo-sang】A woman in her 20s, who was indicted on charges including drunk driving and hit-and-run, was sentenced to eight months in prison and taken into custody by the court.
According to the Ulsan District Court on the 3rd, A, a college student, was driving a Lamborghini SUV on a road in Ulsan one late afternoon in October 2024 when she crashed into a taxi that was stopped.
The impact was strong enough to jolt the taxi driver and passenger, but A fled the scene without checking on the occupants.
She was soon arrested by police who responded after receiving a report. At the time, A's blood alcohol concentration was measured at 0.098%, above the level for license revocation.
A was later indicted for violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes on charges of fleeing after causing injury. Because she had no prior record for the same offense and had reached a settlement with the victims, a similar outcome to comparable cases was expected.
\r\nHowever, the court unusually handed down an actual prison term of eight months and took A into custody in the courtroom.
Presiding Judge Jo Guk-in of Ulsan District Court Criminal Division 5 Single Judge explained the sentencing by saying, "The defendant drove under the influence, caused an accident, and fled just six months after receiving a suspended sentence for drug-related offenses. Even if she is remorseful and the victims' injuries are not severe, strict punishment is unavoidable."
