[Financial News] A total of 287 candidates, including 208 individuals and 79 organizations, have been nominated for this year's Nobel Peace Prize. Among them are believed to be citizens of the Republic of Korea who overcame the Dec. 3 martial law crisis, as well as U.S. President Donald John Trump.
Kristian Berg Harpviken, secretary of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which oversees the Nobel Peace Prize, announced on the 30th of last month local time that 287 candidates had been nominated for this year's prize.
The Nobel Committee keeps the list of nominees confidential for 50 years. For that reason, it does not disclose details about the candidates.
However, nominators are free to reveal the individuals or organizations they have put forward.
Earlier, Kim Eui-young, a professor in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Seoul National University, said in February that some political scientists, including former and current presidents of the International Political Science Association, had nominated the Republic of Korea's 'Citizen Collective' for the Nobel Peace Prize in January.
Foreign media also reported that leaders from Israel, the Kingdom of Cambodia and Pakistan had nominated Trump.
Yulia Navalnaya, the widow of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who died in prison, as well as Pope Leo XIV and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, are also being mentioned.
This year's Nobel Peace Prize will be announced on Oct. 9.
