[The Financial News] As tensions in the Middle East undergo rapid change, a leading Iranian media outlet has offered a positive assessment of the Government of South Korea's diplomatic moves. The analysis said South Korea has tried to maintain a practical balance by keeping channels of communication open with Iran, even within the framework of the ROK-US Alliance.
On the 29th of last month local time, the semi-official Iranian Mehr News Agency published an editorial titled 'A Strategic Review of South Korea's Actions During the Iran War.' In the piece, the outlet said, "South Korea tried to carefully maintain a balance between U.S. pressure, energy security, humanitarian concerns, and the need for communication channels with Iran."
The outlet specifically pointed to the Government of South Korea's $500,000 humanitarian aid delivered to Iran through the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on the 14th of last month as a key example.
Mehr News Agency said, "South Korea is one of the United States' key strategic allies, but at least on the humanitarian level, it tried to distinguish between the Iranian people and military pressure." It added, "This aid sent a political and moral message that South Korea views the Iran crisis through a humanitarian lens, not merely as a matter of commercial interest, and that message mattered more than the amount itself."
The agency also praised the South Korean government for dispatching a special envoy to Iran rather than relying solely on U.S.-led coordination.
