\r\n[Financial News] Jung Chung-rae, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the 27th that he met Ha Jung-woo, Senior Presidential Secretary for AI Future Planning at Cheong Wa Dae, in person and tried to persuade him to run in a by-election for members of the National Assembly.
At a field Supreme Council meeting in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province, that day, Jung said, "After attending the opening ceremony for Kim Boo-kyum's campaign office for the Daegu mayoral race yesterday evening, I came up to Seoul and had dinner with Secretary Ha," adding, "We talked for about two hours, and I told him that he is the one who designed the policy to make Korea one of the world's top three AI powers. I urged him to make up his mind and come to the National Assembly to complete that design through legislation."
The Democratic Party leadership, including Jung, had been trying to persuade Ha to run in the by-election for the Busan Buk-gu-gap constituency. The seat became vacant after Democratic Party lawmaker Jeon Jae-su entered the Busan mayoral race.
Jung said, "I told him that as a Busan native from Buk-gu and a sixth-year junior of candidate Jeon Jae-su at Gudeok High School, he would be the perfect lawmaker to inherit and develop Jeon's district. I also asked him to become a driving force behind victory in Busan, Ulsan Metropolitan City, and South Gyeongsang Province." He added, "He said he would go home and think about it. I think I may be able to bring you good news soon."
The Democratic Party was expected to decide later in the afternoon on strategic nominations for some by-election candidates for National Assembly seats in local districts. Attention is focused on whether the party will formally announce nominations for Ha in Busan Buk-gu-gap and for Presidential Spokesperson Jeon Eun-su in Asan Eul, South Chungcheong Province, which have already been widely discussed within the ruling bloc.
