\r\nOn the 27th, the first day of high fuel cost relief payments, Minister of the Interior and Safety Yun Ho-jung visited the Hwagok 4-dong Community Center in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, to check whether the application and payment process was proceeding smoothly. He then went to nearby Nambu Golmok Market and asked merchants to help promote and guide the use of the relief funds.
At the Hwagok 4-dong Community Center, Yun personally checked the application desk, system, waiting area, and stock of prepaid cards, while encouraging local government officials. He carefully reviewed whether residents faced any inconvenience throughout the process, from application to payment, and called for active support for people who may have difficulty applying, including the elderly, people with disabilities, and foreign residents. In particular, he urged local governments to proactively operate a "door-to-door application" service, in which officials visit residents who have difficulty moving around and accept applications in person. Yun stressed that all administrative resources should be mobilized so that not a single citizen is left out and everyone can receive the high fuel cost relief support.
He also called for careful consideration of public safety and human rights throughout the process, including the guidance notices, application environment, and payment methods.
Yun later visited Nambu Golmok Market and listened to the difficulties faced by merchants struggling with rising fuel prices. He asked them to actively promote and explain where the relief funds can be used. Yun personally attached stickers indicating eligible stores for the high fuel cost relief support to small business shops, encouraging greater awareness of the program. He also asked market merchants to cooperate actively so that residents would have no inconvenience when using the support funds.
He also heard complaints from merchants about rising transportation and packaging costs caused by higher fuel prices, and said the government would support efforts so that the relief funds could help ease the burden on local small business owners and increase sales.
Yun Ho-jung said, "I hope the high fuel cost relief support will serve as a strong buffer for citizens struggling with high fuel prices, a weak won, and high inflation triggered by the Middle East war." He added, "We will concentrate all our efforts with relevant agencies so that the support can be delivered thoroughly to every citizen without blind spots." He also said, "I would like to express my deep gratitude to local government officials who are working day and night in the field to ensure that applications, payments, and use of the funds proceed without disruption."
